Requirements to particpate:
1. Every student must have an updated Sports Physical form turned in to coaches. Most if not all pediatricians have the forms at their office. Sports Physicals are good for one year; so if your child has had a sports physical recently and it doesn't expire prior to Nov. 1st they would not need another. Check with your insurance company about coverage of an annual sports physical. Many Walgreens and Krogers now administer physicals for approx. $35.00 to $45.00.
2. Oldham Co. Board of Education Administrative Regulation - 9060-F form signed.
3. Harmony Elementary Cross Country Procedures Consent Form 09 signed.
The three required forms can be turned in to Harmony Elementary to the attention of Kerri Hammons, Counselor. I prefer all forms be in by July 15, 2009.
If you need the forms please e-mail Coach Hammons.
Practice Schedule:
The first practice will begin on Monday, July 27th from 6:30 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve. The practice schedule will be as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. After the first meet, which usually falls on the first Saturday in September, we will drop Monday practices.
Equipment: The most important equipment is your child's running shoes. I strongly recommend that you purchase running shoes (no spikes) from a running store such as Swags, Ken Combs, Fleet Feet, etc. **** I just purchased my daughter's running shoes at Ken Combs this weekend for $50.00.
Clothing: nothing fancy is required but non-cotton, wicking fabrics are the best and are available in most stores. The lighter the clothes the better. Dress Code: no rolled down pants or exposed stomachs. Water bottle for each runner labeled with his/her name. Runners need to stay hydrated through out the day not just prior to and during practice.
Fees: $85.00 for each runner will be collected by the end of the second week of practice. The fees covers meet entries, team shirts, awards, and equipment/supplies. Many of the young runners have not tried distance running before and it may not be for them; therefore, we have a 2 week "trial period." During this period it is important to discuss with your child if he/she is having fun and enjoying running. I recommend your child complete the two weeks before he/she makes a decision and then honor that decision.
