POST SEASON RUNNING

All,
Just wanted to let everyone know that there are opportunities to let the kids continue to run after the school CC season is over. Two of the local running clubs that have sent me info are the Liberty Running Club, coached by the NOMS coach Mark Levdahl, and the Kentucky Stampede, coached by Leigh Lynch and Jeff Webb. Below are the info they sent to me. Let me know if you have questions about either.
LIBERTY RUNNING CLUB
Coaches:
I plan on having the Liberty Running Club going again for post season racing. The post season is much shorter than in past years though. We will race on 11/14 at the AAU district meet (probably at Tom Sawyer but it will be in the Lousiville area) and then the CCCYNC National Championship meet at Masterson Station on 11/20.
For those of you not familar with post season racing: we no longer race as a school team but gather other kids from the local area and compete as a club team in age groups. There are at least three other clubs in the Lousiville area that will do the same, Derby City, West Side and Kentucky Stampede and I hold nothing against anyone who wants to compete for any of those teams, they are all good. I will give you contact info for each if you wish. Derby City will go to AAU Nationals while I suspect the other two will join us in Lexington. I can even get you in contact with the team from Northern KY if your kids want to go to USATF Nationals.
There are three "National Championships" that will occur during November and December, AAU, USATF and CCCYNC. AAU Nationals are in Orlando, USATF Nationals are in Alabama and CCCYNC are in Lexington, KY this year. I chose CCCYNC because it is the closest. All three offer top flight competition and are roughly the same size.
We will practice roughly three days a week for those remaining three weeks, more details to follow.
Anyone, regardless of ability, is welcome to join us, but the level of competition is another step tougher when we go to Nationals. If your runners are still pumped about Cross Country, don't mind running with faster kids and finishing further back at races then they are welcome to join us.
I already have commitments from runners at several schools.
This is open to runners from 6 years old through 18, although our team will be primarily 8-14 year olds.
Please pass this along to your families.
Thanks
Mark Levdahl

KENTUCKY STAMPEDE
HI AARON,
HERE IS NATIONAL INFO. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PASS IT ON TO YOUR RUNNERS.
KENTUCKY STAMPEDE WILL ONCE AGAIN TAKE RUNNERS FROM VARIOUS SCHOOLS TO NATIONALS THIS YEAR. THE DATE IS NOVEMBER 20TH IN LEXINGTON! WE ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS....ESPECIALLY WITH IT BEING SO CLOSE TO HOME. WE WILL START PRACTICE WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 3.
COST:
1. $15 SINGLET AND $30 TO ENTER
OR
2. $60 ANNUAL CLUB FEE INCLUDES SINGLET, BUT RUNNERS STILL MUST PAY $30 ENTRY. JOINING THE RUNNING CLUB INCLUDES RUNNERS BEING PUT ON THE GROUP E-MAIL FOR A YEAR. THIS WILL INFORM THEM WHERE AND WHEN WE PRACTICE DURING OFF SEASON AND ALL 5K AND ANY ROAD OR TRAIL RACES WE CHOOSE TO RUN AS A CLUB. HOPEFULLY, TRAINING WITH OUR RUNNING CLUB WILL SEND THEM BACK TO SCHOOL A STRONGER AND FASTER RUNNER FOR THEIR TEAM!
**ANY QUESTIONS...PLEASE CALL LEIGH LYNCH 608-7308, JEFF WEBB 741-2437
WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO MEET WITH THE PARENTS INTERESTED FROM YOUR TEAM AT YOUR CONVENIENCE!

STATE

The State Meet, or Meet of Champions, is Saturday, October 30th at Masterson Station Park in Lexington. The Meet Director has changed the format from previous years. This year the races will be a 2K for 4th and under and a 3K for 5th and 6th graders in a separate race. Each race has a Champion race for boys and girls and 1 combined Open Race.

Since our boys won't have enough 5th graders to have a full team and our girls will only have enough for a team if all 5th graders attend, I've asked our 5th graders to make a decision on which race they'd like to enter. The Championship Race or the Open race. There are two ways to look at this. The Championship Race will allow our runners to run against the top 5th and 6th graders in the state. I can't imagine that the Open Race will have that many 6th graders in it so it will still be a good test of their running ability against other 5th graders. I'm ok either way. If I don't hear from our 5th graders or their parents by Tuesday's practice I will be entering them in the Open Race.

I will let all of our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders know which race they will run very soon. I can only enter 7 boys and 7 girls in the Championship Race. Everyone else will run in the Open Race.

Just so everyone knows, I'm NOT happy about this change at all. The KTCCCA has been very hesitant to change the structure of the State Meet ever since I've been involved in Cross Country even though MANY coaches have asked them to change. We've been asking them to make their meet 5th and under and have the 6th graders run with the 7th and 8th graders. The change they've decided to make only makes the problem worse in my opinion.
